You can't throw 'em away anymore, and although there might be a few tech schools here and there who can make use of old computer junk, an awful lot of it is just sitting around taking up space. Why not turn it into art? As this person notes, circuit boards are kind of pretty..

I just hate throwing things away. I have old computers hanging around that are half gutted for parts, but I just can't bring myself to finish them off. So, while I have no use for the project described at https://www.dfpresource.org/winbondclock.html (link dead, sorry) , I was delighted to see at least some parts getting recycled.
