MTAMARK is a simple proposal to help eliminate spam email. It would simply allow legitimate mailservers to identify themselves as such in DNS. Only mailservers would mark themselves in this way, so unlike some other proposed schemes, there is far less work to be done at the DNS level. A system receiving mail simply checks this special DNS record, and if it is marked appropriately, the system can have more confidence in the mail, and conversely would have less confidence (and might specially mark or even reject) in mail from senders without this tag.
Like so many other proposals, it doesn't solve all problems, but it is easy to immplement and could help.
