OSR5 FAQ

Can Unixware 7 programs run on OSR5?

Maybe, but definitely not without the OSRcompat package. This package provides the libraries and hooks necessary to run Unixware 7 binaries.

Note that binary compatibility doesn't guarantee a working program. The program's code can be looking for particular directory structures, expecting certain PATHS, or be expecting particular behaviour from system commands. Those problems hold true in the other direction also: while OSR5 binaries will run on Unixware 7, a particular application may not.

You can install OSRcompat from the Unixware/Openserver Development Kit CD or download it from http://www.caldera.com/download (it's the "Binary Compatibility" module). Note that it is installed with pkgadd, not custom.
