Order (or just read more about) Termcap and Terminfo from Amazon.com
I really wish that people setting out to write Unix programs would buy this book first, just so they really understand what they are doing.
Other than that, if you have ever needed to write termcaps or terminfos for unusual terminals, this is the book to have.
