: Eric M. Gordon propounded (on Thu, Dec 14, 2000 at 02:31:13AM +0000):
: | I have installed an HP Travan tape drive into an SCO 5.0.5 system. It keeps
: | erroring out during a tar or during the Verify phase of Microlite Edge.
:
: And the erros are ?
:
: | I've tried replacing the drive and changing tapes but the effect is
: | generally the same.
:
: Generally?: When are they the same (and what are they in that case)
: and when are they NOT the same (and then what are they) ?
:
: | Has anyone gotten one of these to work successfully? Are there any SCO
: | Patches that are needed. I believe I've installed the latest patches.
:
: Upon what do you base your belief?

His drive is ATAPI/IDE.

We've recommended that he patch the Stp driver with the Driver.a that
properly separates read errors from EOM errors.

We've also recommended that he install the latest "wd" driver
from: ftp://stage.caldera.com/pub/drivers/OSR505/btld/

The only other thought I have that we haven't mentioned is that
he check the HP web site for firmware upgrades to his drive.

o The firmware version for the HP SureStore T20e, T20Xe,
   T20i, T20Xi Travans is 3.01.
o For the HP Colorado 14GB it is 4.01.
o For the HP Colorado 8GB it is 2.08.
o For the HP Colorado 5GB it is 2.08.

There are no firmware updates posted for the HP Colorado 20GB.

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/nonjsnav/hptapeback19100.html
is the jump off point for HP firmware updates.

That pretty much covers our ideas, unless he has a bad batch of media,
or needs to clean the drive more frequently. Any other thoughts/ideas
out there?

Tom

Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. Some were given to me specifically for the purpose of reviewing them. I resell or can earn commissions from the sale of some of these items. Links within these pages may be affiliate links that pay me for referring you to them. That's mostly insignificant amounts of money; whenever it is not I have made my relationship plain. I also may own stock in companies mentioned here. If you have any question, please do feel free to contact me.

Specific links that take you to pages that allow you to purchase the item I reviewed are very likely to pay me a commission. Many of the books I review were given to me by the publishers specifically for the purpose of writing a review. These gifts and referral fees do not affect my opinions; I often give bad reviews anyway.
