For those who do like IM, here's a Mac client.
As is apparently often the case, it may be useless with Yahoo, who takes a dim view of other folks connecting to its services, and has directly said that they will continue to change their protocols with the specific purpose of blocking services like this.
Yahoo's stated rationale is to prevent Spim, but some people seem to think they are just exhibiting typical big company possesiveness and greed.
Foo, I say, IM is not anything I use anyway. But for those who do, such deliberate blocking has to be annoying.

For a company that is supposedly dedicated to stopping spam, spim and whatever, they sure don't do much about spam originating from their servers. They're right up there with AOL and MSN when it comes to spam sources.
